Art & Audio Update From Our Founders

Dear Murfie Members:

It has been a few long weeks since album art and streaming samples were removed from the Murfie site. We’re as frustrated with the missing art and samples as you are, and please know it’s our top priority to get access to these items restored. Below you’ll find some additional background info on the subject, but first we want to reassure you of two important points:

+ All of your discs are safe, sound and happy at our HQ. And, they’ll remain that way for as long as you keep your discs with Murfie.
+ Murfie is solid and funded. We’re excited about the updates and improvements our development team will be rolling out in the coming weeks.

As for some additional background… The rights to album art and streaming audio samples belong to the record companies who produced the content on each of the CDs you’ve sent us. From the time we launched Murfie in 2011, we paid licensing fees in order to access the images and samples. We were a tiny service when we launched, but we’ve grown to the point where we’re in the process of negotiating additional rights from the major record companies. Unfortunately, going into this new negotiation, our prior licensing arrangement was suspended. We are confident that our licensed access to album art and streaming samples will be restored, but it’s very difficult to predict when that will occur. It could take as little as one week or as long as several months. You can expect regular communication about our progress along the way, and we’ll provide an ETA as soon as we know it.

In spite of this road bump, we’re hugely appreciative of the loyalty you’ve shown Murfie. We continue to receive tons (literally) of CDs from our members, and many of you have welcomed the challenge and have continued buying, selling and trading your CDs on Murfie as usual.

We are humbled and thrilled to host such a loyal group of members on Murfie. Thanks again for your ongoing support.

Sincerely,
Matt & Preston

A Solid Fundation

Fundation? Yep, I purposely misspelled that. I wanted to give a nice shout-out to the fact that Murfie is solidly funded for the year. In January 2012, we closed a funding round of $1.4 million, which gives Murfie a solid foundation to forge ahead with new phases of development. The funds will also help us scale up our technical and operational infrastructure as well as sharpen up our marketing initiatives.

So, why are we speaking of this solid fundation again? Well, some folks were quite dispirited by the recent unavailability of album art and audio clips on our site… but with our solid resources, Murfie is actually in great shape. Thousands of CDs arrive from our customers every week, sales and trades continue apace, and we’re presently negotiating to restore licensed access as well as contemplating options and alternatives.

If you’ve got any looming questions for us, please feel free to give us a shout at info@murfie.com. The crew at Murfie is there for you!

Art & Audio Update

First things first. Thanks a million for being part of the Murfie universe. And for sticking around. Through thick and thin. And also for being so darn awesome. You guys are truly what make Murfie tick.

Ok, down to business. You might’ve noticed that the art and audio throughout the Murfie site have presently been made unavailable. We’re fully aware that this is a pain point for members who want to experience The Full Murfie: at the moment we’re working to restore licensed access. However, we can’t say exactly when album art and audio clips will be restored.

Rest assured that we’ll provide another update to y’all as soon as more details can be shared. In the meantime, have no fear, everything still works as it should in Murfieland. Please feel free to contact us at info@murfie.com if you’ve got any questions or concerns. Thanks! Muchas gracias!
